Margie Carter Seminar

To all those who attended the Seminars please post your experience in the reply below.

MARGIE CARTER has been a preschool and kindergarten teacher and a child care director. When she is not traveling to consult and speak, Margie works side by side with directors and teachers in early childhood programs. Margie has co-authored seven books, the most recent of which are Learning Together with Young Children, Designs for Living and Learning, and The Art of Awareness. She has produced a number of DVDs highlighting the growth of teachers in the U.S. drawing inspirations from the Schools of Reggio Emilia.

Designing Environments that Engage Children’s Minds

Thursday 1st October. 6.15 – 9.00pm

Beyond room arrangements and aesthetics, we will consider the aspects of early learning environments that engage children in relationships, imaginative explorations, and the generation of theories. Margie will offer examples from teachers who invite children into discovery, inquiry, and problem solving with provocative materials and a programme culture that promotes an excitement about learning.

Centre Leaders: Creating a reflective culture that transforms pedagogy.

Saturday 3rd October. 9.00 – 3.30pm

When an early education organisation creates a culture of thoughtful dialogue, teachers as well as children are intellectually engaged and excited about the teaching and learning process. Our day together will be structured with the elements of a reflective culture—working in communities of practice with critical friends to experience and examine the stories Margie brings from educators in her communities.

Hi and congratultions REANZ on a well attended and successful 3 days. Well worth the trip down from Whangarei. I have been truly inspired and have accepted the challenge to transform our centre and our practices to the reggio way. After visiting those fab centres, that shared with us so generously, I have decided our children deserve better and so our journey has begun. Thanks Wendy for the transport and the friendship, it was good to catch up with some old faces and meet new ones that will travel to Italy with us in April. Ive not attended a more inspiring set of workshops/ visits before…and as for the food….MMmmm! Thanks guys, much appreciated, keep up the good work.

    2. Kia Ora, All my new friends and colleagues:
I returned to the U.S. again so inspired by my encounters with early educators in Aotearoa/New Zealand. Thanks to REANZ for all your dedication in hosting my seminars and supporting teachers to attend.
My hope is that you will continue to post thoughts and examples of how you interpreted and adapted, and advanced the ideas I offered in my presentations. I look forward to ongoing dialogue with you.
      Warm Regards,
      Margie

Thank you REANZ for delivering such an inspirational set of seminars/centre visits. Margie was an engaging, thought-provoking and clearly dedicated practitioner & researcher – I enjoyed her work very much. Great to touch base with other teachers and ‘catch some ideas’, as well as refreshing old ones that I had filed away. Wonderful to see that Reggio Emilia-inspired ideas have reached so many of us in NZ; with the work you are doing, I’m sure they will continue to reach many more.

Congratulations REANZ on all of your hard work bringing together these seminars. I only attended Thursday night, but wish I’d done the Saturday as well, and taken my whole team along with me. I left feeling totally inspired, soaking up the passion for ece and grateful that we do so many things so well here in NZ. Can’t wait for what comes next!
