The Crib ~ a visit to an Infant Centre.

A group of enthusiastic Early Childhood Teachers travelled by bus to Matakana, one hour north of Auckland, on March 27th, to spend a day visiting and sharing with the teachers of  The Crib.  This is a small, ten children, Infant and Toddler centre.

Here is one teacher’s Personal Reflections on The Crib.

Unfortunately I was overseas the time this visit happened and was unable to attend. Through Jen’s reflection I was able to gain a great insight into ‘The Crib’ and what a wonderful centre it seems to be. So thank you Jen.

Sally we too discussed as a team the use of the word ‘love’. We also found that there was no other word which could sum up our interactions with the children and so we now celebrate it and use it in our documentation.

Thank you REANZ for offering The Crib team the opportunity to reflect on what we do and why. As practitioners working alongside and with children daily, the chance to ‘tell the story’ of our centre was a gift indeed. We spent time thinking about words and images that showed our work and the preciousness of the position we hold, as people who love and care for other people’s children. We wondered whether ‘love’ was too strong a word…but there was no other word for it.
Reading “The Story of Laura” a Reggio publication, I came across the words. “There is very little space between love and learning.” It fits well with us.
Thank you to Jen for your insightful and thoughtful comments about your experience with us. It lifted us and inspired us to seek further answers to ensure every child in our centre and the wider community has a chance to be free in environments where respect, harmony and love are plentiful.
